For documents containing confidential information (legal contracts, financial records, medical documents, personal identification), the zero-upload approach of LocalPDF provides a materially stronger privacy guarantee. iLovePDF complies with GDPR and claims automatic file deletion, but any server-based service has an inherent privacy risk that client-side processing eliminates entirely.
File Size Limits
iLovePDF's free tier imposes a 200 MB per-operation limit. LocalPDF has no server-side limit because there is no server; processing is bounded only by your device's RAM, which typically allows files well beyond 500 MB.
Tools Available
Both services cover all core PDF operations. iLovePDF has additional conversion formats including PDF to PowerPoint and HTML to PDF. LocalPDF has Repair PDF and Compare PDF, which iLovePDF does not offer. For most users, both cover 95% of everyday needs.
Speed
iLovePDF's speed depends on your upload connection, server load, and download speed. LocalPDF's speed depends on your device's CPU. On modern hardware, most LocalPDF operations complete faster because there is no upload/download cycle.
Verdict
For casual use with non-sensitive documents and a reliable internet connection, iLovePDF is a mature, well-designed service. For users who prioritize privacy, need to work offline, or regularly process large files, LocalPDF's client-side architecture provides advantages that server-based services cannot match.
